Soundtrack2 Ep. 98: Still Lost
Bear In Heaven, White Rabbits, Drowner, Vibravoid, Bishop Morocco & more
1. White Rabbits – Temporary
Boom! I’m guilty of loving electronic rock like this, straight out of the Phoenix school.
2. Beach Fossils – Shallow
Chiming guitar pop of the Real Estate variety. Lots of this stuff coming out of Brooklyn nowadays.
3. Letting Up Despite Great Faults – Helium
Recently I heard someone describe music as fitting into one of two categories: sounding like New Order and not sounding like New Order. I’d put this hazy electronic track in the latter category, with a bit of 8-bit thrown in.
4. Bear In Heaven – Sinful Nature
The track of the week is off I Love You, It’s Cool out April 3. And it’s killer.
5. She’s So Rad – Sinful Nature
If you like pounding electronica with layers of guitar and synth, crank this.
6. Vibravoid – Save My Soul
Their website calls them “Europe’s #1 psychedelic and acid rock band.” This track is proof.
7. Lazyflux – Trail Blazers
Eastern-tinged psychedelic folktronica out of the UK.
8. Bishop Morocco – Melt My Mind
Local Toronto boys drop a gem off their latest album.
9. Drowner – Tiny Ship
Slow-building beauty that just explodes! Best thing to ever come out of Houston?
10. West Indian Girl – Still Lost
Nice ethereal groove from a few years back. Wasn’t sure if they’re still around, but their Twitter account says an album is in the works.
11. The Magnetic Fields – Heroes
One of my favourite David Bowie tunes gets a superb, pretty faithful cover here. Minus the screaming…kind of a shame.
12. The Beta Band – Needles In My Eyes
Chill psych classic off the Scottish band’s 3 EPs. Way more than the sum of its guitar, drums and organ parts.
13. Los Ingenieros Alemanes – (por el) Teorema de Gauss
This Madrid band does the best Built To Spill impression I’ve heard.
14. Big Sugar – Wild Ox Moan
A Low-like classic from the band’s early bluesy days. Complete with yodelling and amazing guitar/falsetto vox solo.
15. Kontakte – Life’s Road Movies
First you’re floating in space, then you’re jumping on your bed playing air guitar.
Two great bands do Daytrotter
If you like live-in-the-studio performances, head on over to Daytrotter. Our faves Tame Impala and Bear In Heaven both warmed up the studio recently.
