Crash City Saints, Miracle Fortress, Secret Colours, The Brother Kite, Deep Cut & more

1.   Deep Cut – Makes Me Wanna

London crew kicks things off with some fist pumping rock and roll.

2.   Crash City Saints – Fuck And Destroy

Chiming shoegaze that’s much sweeter than the title suggests.

3.   Regina – Jos Et Sä Soita

They’re Finnish, but the sound is straight up groovy J-pop meets shoegaze.

4.   Shelby – The Wait

Hooks aplenty on this indie rock tune. Just discovered them recently.

5.   The Brother Kite – Death Ray

Shoegaze overload interspersed with great melodic vocals.

6.   Christiana – Pretend

Tune from defunct Canadian band  that somehow reminds me of a free ride down a seaside highway.

7.   Skull Defekts – Fragrant Nimbus

Half-sung, half-spoken menacing punk noise with a frightening middle part. This is Iggy Pop meets Sonic Youth.

8.   Helium – Lady Of The Fire

Boston-based Matador 90s heroes drop some psych sitar from The Magic City.

9.   Run Run Run – Drizzle

Great dark power pop out of LA.

10.  Secret Colours – Follow The Drone

This is drone rock for BRMC fans. Bonus points for being from Chicago yet using English/Canadian spelling.

11.  Shy – Shift

California midtempo shoegaze that brings to mind both Archers Of Loaf and Swervedriver.

12.  Jennifer Castle – Misguided

Beautiful, ethereal float-down-a-river experience from Castlemusic.

13.  Efrim Menuck – Our Lady of Parc Extension and Her Munificent Sorrows

Godspeed mainman delivers a singalong from the planet Venus.

14.  The Besnard Lakes – On Bedford and Grand

Last podcast I referenced them, so here’s the real deal from their first album. Fantastic.

15.  Miracle Fortress – Seabird

Poppy chillwave meets Animal Collective with soul: “Somebody deliver the truth to me…”

16.  Mode Moderne – Real Goths

Rainy day, 80s influenced chillwave out of Toronto. Lovely mood here and good lyrics: “I’ve got the body of a  man who reads poetry…”

17.  Seavault – Cornfields

Moody electronic drone pop tune out of the UK.

18.  Loney Dear – Take My Hand

Near instrumental that would be perfect for the closing scene and credits of virtually any film. Surprised to learn these guys are Swedish and not Canadian.

Soundtrack2 Ep63: Her Sinking Sun

Ceremony, Yuck, Ghost/Light, Pavement, Coma Cinema & more

1.   Spirit Spine – Ocean Of Sand

Driving, space psych starts us off. Part of the ambitious Glossalia concept album.

2.   Ides Of Space – Way Out At Sea

Sydney heroes rock out on a track from 2004’s Sleeping Fractures.

3.   Dear Eloise – Oh What A Day

Japanese band sets guitars on noise. Can’t make out what they’re singing, but it sounds great.

4.   Ceremony – Not Tonight

Another great dose of 80s-inspired wailing guitar terror. This is off the Not Tonight EP, due out tomorrow.

5.   Crash City Saints – Cough Syrup

Find this fevered noisy shoegaze power pop on the Returner EP, complete with the great vocal melody.

6.   Cocteau Twins – In Our Angelhood

The ethereal ones go all post punk.

7.   Ghost/Light – You Already Know

Though this track came out last year, I recently came across it and was hooked once I heard the vocals.

8.   Yuck – Getaway

Online sensations behind “Georgia” channel their inner bar band. Not sure why, but it reminds me of Superchunk.

9.   The Telewire – Quiet Satellite

Dreamy theme for a train journey. Is that Hooky on bass?

10.  Pavement – Kennel District

Great midtempo rocker with the band’s unmistakable sound.

11.  The Koolaid Electric Company – SOS Son Of Sam

Stoner drone overload. How is it that I never played these guys before? Love ’em.

12.  [aftersun] – Goodbye

Been sitting on this psych tension and release epic for a while, but its time has come.

13.  Imperial Teen – Alone In The Grass

90s indie rockers do 7+ minutes of krautrock and pedal insanity on 1999’s What Is Not To Love.

14.  Moby – Be The One

Don’t judge this one until you’ve actually listened to its great claustrophic space pop. Has he been listening to Georgio Moroder? Available for free download on his site.

15.  Coma Cinema – Her Sinking Sun

Slightly dreary dream pop tune off Blue Suicide, available for download on their site.

Sountrack2 Audiocast36: All to All

Yo La Tengo, Broken Social Scene, Crash City Saints, Televise, Dubstar & more

Ooh lots of good new stuff this time round. Happy yet?

1. Broken Social Scene – All To All

Off Forgiveness the Rock Record out on May 4. Nice to see them evolving their sound here. Different but still very much Broken Social Scene. Who’s that singing though?

2. Deastro – Mowgli The Lynx

Ethereal space pop out of Detroit.

3. Color of Clouds – Let Go

Very groovy dreaminess from Brooklyn-based band’s Satellite of Love.

4. Dubstar – I’m In Love With A German Film Star

I’m digging this one off the Peace! project. Not sure why…maybe the climax at the end?

5. Sweet Trip – Design : 2: 3

Mindscrambling journey to the edge.

6. Yo La Tengo – Sugarcube

Classic stuff from seminal band. One of our all-time faves.

7. Crash City Saints – Broke

Ripping shoegaze number from the new, excellent Glow In The Dark Music album. Turn it up!

8. The Boo Radleys – Everybird

Boo Up! EP track provides more distorted sweetness.

9. Savages – Plain and Simple

Gainesville’s finest deliver loud indie rock from their Graveyard Cities album.

10. Catherine Wheel – Intravenous

Balloon EP gem. Hope it’s still nice and loud for this one.

11.  Werewolves – I Need You

Gutsy rock and roll by curious American band whose MySpace descriptor is “we sell soul.”

12. All The Saints – Outs

Fire On Corridor X slow burner builds and then crashes into the choruses.

13. Gravenhurst – Trust

Catherine Wheel-indebted loveliness from 2007’s The Western Lands. “Trust is a hard thing to come by these days.”

14. The Falling Spikes – Cellophane

Mellow psych dirge ballad out of Yorkshire.

15. Picnic – Too Fast

Estonian dream pop of the highest order. Strongly recommend checking out the Winter Honey record.

16. Televise – Smile

Simon Scott of Slowdive provides an epic, transcendent ending.
