1.   Husky Rescue – Rainbow Flows
Chilling out at a hookah bar on Venus.

2.   Psychic Ills – Mind Daze
Hazy psych roots rock off Hazed Dream, due out later this month.

3.   Duelelectrum – Ultrasensor
São Paulo band gets murky on this one from Exploding Galaxy.

4.   Neutral Milk Hotel – You’ve Passed
Recent touring and reissues made me dust off this powerful drone rock classic.

5.   Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Too Real
The trip down memory lane continues with this great midtempo dream pop tune from their first album.

6.   Spectrum – How You Satisfy Me
Also recording under Sonic Boom, here the former Spacemen 3 member drops shimmering organ psych like this one from Refractions.

7.   Wooden Shjips – Black Smoke Rise
Leadoff track to new album West.

8.   Model Morning – We Go All Night
A fantastic rock and roll epic. Anyone hearing a similarity between the lead singer and Peter Gabriel?

9.   Starfire Connective Sound – Acid Morning Ride
Bombastic Brazilian rock and roll.

10.  Broken Water – Heart Strings
Fulfilling my quota of tunes inspired by Sonic Youth. Available on Exploding In Sound’s sampler.

11.  Deerhoof – Scream Team
I went to the Battles show last week. Deerhoof singer Kazu Makino was featured on a video screen singing their very cool “Swinging & Shag.” Now I’m paying it forward by dropping this gem from The Runners Four.

12.  Azma – Sweetness and Light
This melody is 100% guaranteed to get inside your head.

13.  The Chambermaids – China Blue
Twin city garage power pop. Lovely.

14.  Weekend – Hazel
Indie power pop with a splash of shoegaze.

15.  Sea Dweller – Settings
Love Is Coming track of near-perfect C86 shoegaze.

16.  The Ludvico Treatment – The Last Thing You Should Do
Blistering cover of David Bowie’s 1997 Earthling track.

17.  Sleeping Bags – Canteloupe
Released last month, this may be placed in the chillwave category. But to me it’s just a fantastic, huge tune.

Soundtrack2 Ep. 75: Twisted Mirror

Masquer, Deerhoof, Shade, New Estate, Killing Joke & more

1.   The Wedding Present – Crawl

Wistful indie pop from 1990 gets us going.

2.   Killing Joke – Eighties

Blast of primal yet glammy post punk featuring the UK’s greatest screamer. Weird Science fans may recognize this from the crazy house party scene, before the motorcycle gang rides through the house.

3.   Tones On Tail – Go

Former Bauhaus dudes dropped this freaky goth funk gem, then decided to form Love and Rockets.

4.   Medicine – She Knows Everything

Wonderful screaming noise with ethereal crooning vocals over top.

5.   Masquer – Happiness

Swedes provide some dark, romantic electro pop, available for free on their site.

6.   Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Y Control

This popped up on my player the other day. Overlooked indie noir beauty from Fever To Tell.

7.   Scarlet Chives – The Horror

Track of the week! Imagine Kate Bush crossed with My Bloody Valentine, and you’ve got Scarlet Chives. Name’s a bit silly, mind you.

8.   Skylight – As You Leave (2008)

Very cool stuff recently unearthed by the Boston band and uploaded to their bandcamp page. Nice murky shoegaze.

9.   Shade – Get There With You

Latonka track with great vocals and drone. Reminds me of another band, but I can’t say who…

10.  Daydream – Shiny Road

This Korean band love their Ride. That’s ok, we do too. Nice melody and female vocal.

11.  Air Formation – Fallen Leaves

Cool, slightly dreary sonic assault.

12.  New Estate – Dream Planner

Fantastic track that out-Pavements Pavement. But with a touch of shoegaze thrown in.

13.  Surely I Come Quickly – The Breeze

Lo-fi from Saskatchewan? This has been kicking around for a while, but had I known they were from Saskatoon I’d have dropped it sooner. Cool French horn, or whatever that instrument is.

14.  Pure X – Twisted Mirror

Reverb-drenched goover for the late late late night wind-down.

15.  Sungrazer – Wild Goose

Gimme stoner rock! And make it Dutch, please. Hoping to play some more of this kind of stuff, provided it fits. Thoughts?

16.  Royal Bangs – TV Tree (Deerhoof remix)

Noisy, bonkers remix of great tune from Flux Outside.

17.  The Harvey Girls – Faster Peach

Hard to describe this one, but trust me it’ s great. Till next time.

Soundtrack2 Ep. 57: No More Canyons

The Dust Mice, Asobi Seksu, Disappears, James Blake, Young Galaxy & more

More great new music that needs to be heard.

1.   //orangenoise – On The Run

Glammy, high energy garage from Karachi. The excellent //voracious EP is available for free download on Bandcamp.

2.   The Vanity Press – Common Girls

Glorious Swervedriver-influenced shoegaze from “Satan-tonio,” Texas.

3.   Figurehead – Idiot Savant

From NW Shoegazing’s awesome Vibrato 11.01 compilation, this Pinion track delivers full-on, rock and roll shoegaze.

4.   Disappears – Halo

Propulsive rock and roll with a dose of krautrock from their great new Guider album.

5.   Lower Heaven – Firearms

Now we enter the drone zone. One of the many nice cuts off their Today Is All We Have record. Note not to confuse this band with Lower Dens, as I did at first.

6.   The Vacant Lots – Confusion

With a wink at vintage Brian Jonestown Massacre, love this psych cut from the New Englanders.

7.   Voyageurs – Black Forest

Murky trip into the night from the brilliantly-titled Alien Iverson.

8.   Asobi Seksu – Trails (Deerhoof remix)

Tense, cut up re-interpretation of the beautiful Flourescence track.

9.   Young Galaxy – We Have Everything

I know what you’re thinking: will we play every song off their new Shapeshifting record? Well…if they’re all this good, we make no promises.

10.  Blouse – Shadow

80’s inspired electropop that you can wrap yourself up in. Pick it up on their Bandcamp.

11.  Illogical Time Concerns – Fight Till You’re Right

San Franciscans piece together an addictive lo-fi tune on their Neu Symbols EP, available on Bandcamp. Not to be confused with this Beastie Boys classic.

12.  The Dust Mice – Sun Will Shine

Very impressed with this UK band’s Sun Will Shine EP (bandcamp). Check out the classic dream pop on this title track.

13.  jj – I’m The One / Money On My Mind

Had this great chillwave tune kicking around for a while. This has got to be the shortest song that has two names separated by a slash.

14.  Tearjerker – Best

Released on last November’s Strangers, I love the melody over the swollen, distorted bass.

15.  James Blake – Wilhelms Scream

Hard to define this one – space age R&B? Just wonderful.

16.  Quiet Lights – No More Canyons

Building intensity from Brooklyn.
