Soundtrack2 Ep. 108: No Sense
Japandroids, Grooms, Bailterspace, The Flaming Lips, Beach House & more

Post War Years
1. Japandroids – Continuous Thunder
Kicking things off with the closing track from Celebration Rock, referred to by Songs & Cigarettes as an album “ripped from your youth.” My take? “Heroes” for a new generation.
2. Wyla – Fill In
This band continues to impress on the solid Night Fits album. Love the Autolux vibe here.
3. Electro Group – Green Machine
Stunner from the Lifter/Green Machine EP that has the intensity of the great Bailterspace. Wouldn’t it be great if they came out with some new music?
4. Swervedriver – The Birds
On a bit of a late-period kick for some classic shoegaze bands. This one’s from 1998′s excellent Ejector Seat Reservation.
5. Grooms – Dreamsucker
Some hyper Brooklyn rock and roll.
6. Eternal Summers – Wonder
Propulsive power pop out of Virginia.
7. Cookie Duster – Two Feet Stand Up
Brendan Canning of Broken Social Scene leads a new crew to higher heights on When Flying Was Easy.
8. Ride – Gonna Be Alright
More late period Britpop goodness off overlooked Tarantula.
9. Bailterspace – No Sense
New music from this seminal New Zealand dark shoegaze band. Cool to see they didn’t ape their old style.
10. Grave Babies – Fuck Off
An atmospheric, reverb-drenched anthem off Gothdammit.
11. Pontiak – Royal Colors
Switching gears from trenchcoats to brain melting psych. That’s just how we roll.
12. The Flaming Lips – Children Of The Moon (feat. Tame Impala)
Peeling back the onion that is the The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends. So excited to hear some new TI tunes!
13. Ombre – Cara Falsa
Pitchfork tells me this band consists of Julianna Barwick and Helado Negro. Plus their Believe You Me album is on the way.
14. The Steals – All Coming Back
Lovely dream pop from a few years back.
15. Beach House – Lazuli
I wasn’t crazy about first single “Myth” so I’ve slept on this album. Then this track drew me back to the mothership.
16. Cloud – Childhood
This chillwave track sounds like it’s been playing in my head for years.
17. Post War Years – Glass House
Track of the week: glorious electro pop from the UK.
18. Diiv – Wait
Some nice shoegaze from new album Oshin (get it?) on Captured Tracks.
19. A Dancing Beggar – Stars Bring Us Closer (Franz Kirmann remix)
A slow build, but the atmosphere on this remix just transported me.
Soundtrack2 Audiocast26: Last Man On Earth
Brian Jonestown Massacre, Japandroids, The High Wire, New Fast Automatic Daffodils, Black Ryder & more

With 2009 winding down, I’ve trawled the archives to find some unplayed gems from this year and combined them with great new stuff that’s come out in the last month or so.
Long-time listeners will notice the usual Soundtrack2 intro/outro are missing. I’m travelling and don’t have the files with me, but I’m thinking about getting a new intro. Any suggestions?
Here’s to a great 2010. BTW anyone seen this movie?
1. Brian Jonestown Massacre – This Is The One Thing We Did Not Want To Have Happen
Seven minutes of scuzzy psych kicks us off. This is just one of the many gems off Who Killed Sgt Pepper, due out in January.
2. Oneida – I Will Haunt You
Jazzy freeform rock band bring the noise with this track off Rated O. You can find this from the fine folks at RCRDLBL.
3. Japandroids – Sovereignty
High velocity noisy Canadian indie rock from earlier this year.
4. Singapore Sling – Last Man On Earth
Big fan of the Sling. Check out this dark rocker off their latest full-length, Perversity Desperation And Death.
5. Black Ryder – Let It Go
Fans of Spacemen 3 will dig this dark number from the Aussie band. Check out their very consistent Buy The Ticket, Take The Ride album.
6. Dead Mellotron – Dress Rehearsal
Noisy, driving space rock out of Dallas. I’m sure I’m not the first to say this, but – I hear no mellotrons. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
7. New Fast Automatic Daffodils – Cannes
Missed this band the first time, but I find they popped up a lot this year. Very creative early 90s rock from Manchester.
8. iLL – Timeless
I’m getting into Supercar via Koji Nakamura’s splinter band iLL. This is one of the more rocking tunes off of 2008′s Dead Wonderland.
9. Wry – Touch
Nice Brazilian dream pop.
10. Inverness – Bats
And off we go with some trippy, groovy goodness out of San Francisco.
11. The Appleseed Cast – The Summer Before
More blissful dream pop off this year’s Sagarmatha.
12. Little Black Dress – Snow In June
More goodness from Texas. Love this floating dream pop tune off the album of the same name.
13. The High Wire – A Future Ending
This UK buzz band (named band of the week by Spinner) drops a nice midtempo rocker from The Sleep Tape.
14. Elemental Gaze – Let Me Erase You
Electronic shoegaze goodness from Indonesian band featured on 2008′s Half-Dreaming compilation.
15. Japanese Gum – Chlorine Blue
Self-described as “an experimental Italian duo whose music is characterized by wall of guitars, soft vocals, electronic glitch beats and effects,” this tracks goes from chill to all-out noise assault and back.
16. Everything Is Made In China – Sleepwalking
Straight outta Moscow comes melodic eletronic pop a la Stereolab, but trippier.
17. Nic Bommarito – Hymn For 200 Sugar Packets
Closing out the set with some open air, explosive post-rock off Harp Fragments.
