Soundtrack2 Ep. 78: Into The Wilderness
The Sunshine Factory, Kyla La Grange, The War on Drugs, I Break Horses, Myty Konkeror & more
1. Hunters – Brat Mouth
Love this garage tune and its awesome surf punk chorus. Midsong cacophony included!
2. Yuck – The Wall
Great rock and roll tune from Daytrotter. Kept passing this one over since it’s not what we normally play. Check out Stereogum‘s chat with them about their influences.
3. Sleeping Bag – Slime
Good old fashioned American drone-y power pop.
4. Folie Adieu – Sacrificial Anode
Bring on the spiralling shoegaze.
5. Myty Konkeror – Whitewash
Really nice mid-90s indie rock vibe here. Love it! Pick it up on I Miss The Future.
6. duel – Wisher
This Swedish band might just out-Swervedriver Swervedriver.
7. 28 Degrees Taurus – Electricity
Continuing the long tradition of great songs titled electricity (Spiritualized, Suede), this murky, psych tune is a killer. The rest of the record is, um…interesting.
8. Lüger – Dracula’s Chaffeur Wants More
Don’t be thrown off by the kooky title. This adrenaline-fuelled ride is the real deal. Sweet buildup too.
9. Letting Up Despite Great Faults – I Feel You Happen
Dark, beautiful whisper croon overtop pounding shoegaze. Very nice.
10. The War On Drugs – Original Slave
Huge buzz about this album, and well deserved. This instrumental’s perfect for train rides through stawberry fields. Yes, I know that was cheesy. Dig the “Psychotic Reaction” harmonica.
11. I Break Horses – Winter Beats
Another very buzzy band with shimmering, wistful electronic dream pop.
12. Slow Loris – Golden Lines
Some nice afternooon slacker indie rock out of Wisconsin.
13. Kyla La Grange – Walk Through Walls (Communion Version)
Powerful, heart-on-sleeve indie in the vein of Young Galaxy or The Besnard Lakes.
14. The Sunshine Factory – Chainsaw Girl
Their latest – smooth pastoral dream pop.
15. Joy Zipper – Christmas Song
Sacrilege! An organ-based psych droner oldie off American Whip.
16. Reverie Sound Revue – I Could Be Dangerous
Hard to describe this one, but there’s a cool bossa groove here somewhere.
17. Burning Hearts – Into The Wilderness
Widescreen 80s-influenced midtempo tune closes the show. Thank you.
