1.   The Wedding Present – Crawl

Wistful indie pop from 1990 gets us going.

2.   Killing Joke – Eighties

Blast of primal yet glammy post punk featuring the UK’s greatest screamer. Weird Science fans may recognize this from the crazy house party scene, before the motorcycle gang rides through the house.

3.   Tones On Tail – Go

Former Bauhaus dudes dropped this freaky goth funk gem, then decided to form Love and Rockets.

4.   Medicine – She Knows Everything

Wonderful screaming noise with ethereal crooning vocals over top.

5.   Masquer – Happiness

Swedes provide some dark, romantic electro pop, available for free on their site.

6.   Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Y Control

This popped up on my player the other day. Overlooked indie noir beauty from Fever To Tell.

7.   Scarlet Chives – The Horror

Track of the week! Imagine Kate Bush crossed with My Bloody Valentine, and you’ve got Scarlet Chives. Name’s a bit silly, mind you.

8.   Skylight – As You Leave (2008)

Very cool stuff recently unearthed by the Boston band and uploaded to their bandcamp page. Nice murky shoegaze.

9.   Shade – Get There With You

Latonka track with great vocals and drone. Reminds me of another band, but I can’t say who…

10.  Daydream – Shiny Road

This Korean band love their Ride. That’s ok, we do too. Nice melody and female vocal.

11.  Air Formation – Fallen Leaves

Cool, slightly dreary sonic assault.

12.  New Estate – Dream Planner

Fantastic track that out-Pavements Pavement. But with a touch of shoegaze thrown in.

13.  Surely I Come Quickly – The Breeze

Lo-fi from Saskatchewan? This has been kicking around for a while, but had I known they were from Saskatoon I’d have dropped it sooner. Cool French horn, or whatever that instrument is.

14.  Pure X – Twisted Mirror

Reverb-drenched goover for the late late late night wind-down.

15.  Sungrazer – Wild Goose

Gimme stoner rock! And make it Dutch, please. Hoping to play some more of this kind of stuff, provided it fits. Thoughts?

16.  Royal Bangs – TV Tree (Deerhoof remix)

Noisy, bonkers remix of great tune from Flux Outside.

17.  The Harvey Girls – Faster Peach

Hard to describe this one, but trust me it’ s great. Till next time.

Soundtrack2 Ep. 67: Endless Drive

Future Islands, Elf Power, The Voices, Golden Ages, Pacific UV & more

1.   Para Siempre – Adolescence

Starting things off with in the red, urgent yet murky punky pop.

2.   The Catherine Wheel – Let Me Down Again

Black Metallic rocker with just deadly choruses. This one’ll get inside your head.

3.   Future Islands – Walking Through That Door

Just a fantastic song with glorious synth work and a great groove. Never want this to end.

4.   Medicine – Astral Gravy

Brash, glammy rock and roll from 2003’s The Mechanical Forces Of Love.

5.   Tame Impala – Alter Ego

A highlight they dropped at last night’s show at The Phoenix. But then they topped it – by covering Massive Attack‘s Angel! Was also surprised to see they weren’t using drum samples…the drummer was amazing.

6.   Crystal Stilts – Silver Sun

Another one from the Brooklynites’ new record. They’ve struck a nice mod-surf vibe on it.

7.   Lowtide – Underneath Tonight

Shoegaze pop from last year’s You Are My Good Light EP.

8.   Elf Power – Skeleton

One of the more sinister tracks off the Elephant 6 band’s The Winter Is Coming album.

9.   10 Second Dynasty – Endless Drive

Epic 10-minute shoegaze anthem. Anyone have info on this band they can share?

10.  Black Forest Of Opium – Afyonkarahisar Battle Cry

Winner of this week’s award for Most Embarassing Band Name To Have To Say You’re Listening To. Great drone-y tune with some heavy lyrics about crushing down enemies.

11.  The Voices – When The Black Sun Sets

More shoegaze psych off the Cardiff band’s Death Of A Lover’s Song album.

12.  The People’s Temple – Sons Of Stone

Killer drone psych that is a must for fans of Brian Jonestown Massacre or The Black Angels. The vocalist reminds me of someone, but I just can’t my finger on it…[Update: Turns out it was Chris Wilson of the Flamin’ Groovies.]

13.  The Morning Clouds – The Wrong Things

New track that channels the classic reverb-heavy ballads of the 60s.

13.  Pacific UV – Float

Free track from April available through their site. Brings Spiritualized to mind.

14.  Ghost Animal – In Your Room (Golden Ages remix)

Churning guitars and insistent synths over heart-on-sleeve vocals. Original’s nice too.

15.  Pale Suns – Here Is

Shimmering waves of noisy beauty.

16.  Sun Glitters – Everything Could Be Fine (The Astroboy remix)

Oscillating intense electronic remix takes us home.

Soundtrack2 Audiocast45: Tear The World In Two

Film School, Pale Saints, NYC UFOs, Weed, Brad Laner & more

Messing with the formula a bit this week…

1. Engineers – Song For Andy

Mellow electronic dream pop off last year’s superb Three Fact Fader. New album In Praise Of More is out next week!

2. Calm Palm Vapors – Run The Tables

Chicago band bring wistful, beautiful melodic indie rock with touches of noise.

3. Ulrich Schnauss & Jonas Munk – Sonnenblumenstrahl

This year’s Manual and German shoegaze electronica-meister’s collab has lots of nice tunes. This one builds in intensity with glorious swathes of synths.

4. The Chemical Brothers – Escape Velocity

Up for a Krautrock techno masterpiece? Look no further. Not a fan of this band but I couldn’t pass this one up.

5. Film School – Find You Out

This one’s off their new Fission record. Really like the lost 80s/M83 vibe here and the vocals.

6. Brad Laner – Brain

The name of this track could describe Brad’s music. On this song, there’s heady, furiously inventive noise pop with hints of classic rock. His MySpace defines his music as “Bossa nova/ happy hardcore  / Healing & Easy Listening.” Hmmm…

7. Medicine – I Feel Nothing At All

We dig back a bit further to Brad Laner’s previous 90s group, the mighty Medicine. This one’s got a nice Boo Radleys vibe.

8. Pale Saints – You Tear The World In Two

Real C86 pop vibe on this early track.

9 . Sugarplum Fairies – Velcro Girl

Fantastic singing and production on this pop rock tune outta Vienna. Melody’s so catchy it makes me wonder if (a) this is a cover or (b) if I’ve already put this tune on a mix.

10. Telenovelas – Bloody Mary

Now we’re back to some straight-up shoegaze. Great guitar from a band with several sweet tunes. Free on their Bandcamp.

11. Guided By Voices – Motor Away

The first GBV song I ever heard. Pure, righteous rock and roll freedom.

12. Spitfire – Fluid

UK 90s rock and roll band play to the balcony.

13. NYC UFOs – I See You

Spoon-cool Massachusetts mob provide a dark, jangly late night anthem. Check out their Bandcamp and watch for this song in a car commercial.

14. Weed – Quilt

More Bandcamp goodness, this one a muffled, melodic five-and-a-half minute monster of a tune.

15. Antiseptic Beauty – Freefall

90s Derby, UK band take us home with a sweet dream pop journey.
