1.   The Family Cat – Push Comes To Shove
Glorious fast strummed 80s power pop.

2.   Pray TV – Sure I’m Sure
Aussie poppy post punk with great bassline. Check out Lost Transmissions at the link above.

3.   Teenage Fanclub – Sparky’s Dream
Had an urge to play the fabulous harmonies of the ‘Club.

4.   Killed By 9V Batteries – This City Is Lit When You’re On Top Of It
Lovely slice of dissonant indie rock outta Austria.

5.   Big Deal – With The World At Your Feet
Track of the week. Great harmonies and production on this track from Lights Out. Brings to mind Wye Oak going up the country.

6.   The Mandelbrot Set – Lush
More early 90s warmth for folks who love Revolver. Nice flourish of guitar at the end.

7.   [The] Case Worker – National Runner
Sorry for all the lazy comparisons, but this sounds like the kind of track Sam Roberts should be putting out now.

8.   Shimmercore – Come Crash With Me
One of many very nice tracks from this Indianapolis band’s Dronelands album.

9.   True Widow – S.F.H.D.
Love the gritty, minimal guitar on this track.

10.  Teen – Just Another
Wonderful mood here. Imagine the organ from “When a man loves a woman” crossed with Galaxie 500.

11.  Model Morning – Without You I’m Lost
Epic deep dream rock from Your Worst Enemy. Realized that I’ve actually played their killer track “We Go All Night” on two S2 episodes!

12.  Poem Rocket – Karel Appel
Sonic Youth-indebted rock and roll you can dance to.

13.  The Air Was Thick – Drones
Kind of weird underground shoegaze.

14.  Pollux B – Brunettes
Solid Melbourne shoegaze off the wonderful I Heart Noise compilation.

15.  The Raveonettes – Beat City
It’s Saturday night after the apocalypse – let’s dance!

16.  A Place To Bury Strangers – So Far Away
It’s an unwritten rule that new tracks by this band will get played here. Very nice. Look for their Onwards To The Wall EP Feb. 6.

17.  I, Noiseferatu – In The City
Dark shoegaze with buzzsaw guitar, courtesy of a band with a connection to Stellarium.

1.   Husky Rescue – Rainbow Flows
Chilling out at a hookah bar on Venus.

2.   Psychic Ills – Mind Daze
Hazy psych roots rock off Hazed Dream, due out later this month.

3.   Duelelectrum – Ultrasensor
São Paulo band gets murky on this one from Exploding Galaxy.

4.   Neutral Milk Hotel – You’ve Passed
Recent touring and reissues made me dust off this powerful drone rock classic.

5.   Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Too Real
The trip down memory lane continues with this great midtempo dream pop tune from their first album.

6.   Spectrum – How You Satisfy Me
Also recording under Sonic Boom, here the former Spacemen 3 member drops shimmering organ psych like this one from Refractions.

7.   Wooden Shjips – Black Smoke Rise
Leadoff track to new album West.

8.   Model Morning – We Go All Night
A fantastic rock and roll epic. Anyone hearing a similarity between the lead singer and Peter Gabriel?

9.   Starfire Connective Sound – Acid Morning Ride
Bombastic Brazilian rock and roll.

10.  Broken Water – Heart Strings
Fulfilling my quota of tunes inspired by Sonic Youth. Available on Exploding In Sound’s sampler.

11.  Deerhoof – Scream Team
I went to the Battles show last week. Deerhoof singer Kazu Makino was featured on a video screen singing their very cool “Swinging & Shag.” Now I’m paying it forward by dropping this gem from The Runners Four.

12.  Azma – Sweetness and Light
This melody is 100% guaranteed to get inside your head.

13.  The Chambermaids – China Blue
Twin city garage power pop. Lovely.

14.  Weekend – Hazel
Indie power pop with a splash of shoegaze.

15.  Sea Dweller – Settings
Love Is Coming track of near-perfect C86 shoegaze.

16.  The Ludvico Treatment – The Last Thing You Should Do
Blistering cover of David Bowie’s 1997 Earthling track.

17.  Sleeping Bags – Canteloupe
Released last month, this may be placed in the chillwave category. But to me it’s just a fantastic, huge tune.
