Her Vanished Grace, Colourmusic, Boris, Night Music, SPC ECO & more

Lots of great stuff this week, including three bands named after interesting people. Enjoy!

1.   Colourmusic – Yes!

Want pounding, slightly feverish rock and roll with great use of noise?  Look no further than this US/UK group. Taken the very good My ________ Is Pink album.

2.   Headtime – Slowly

Echo And The Bunnymen-style opener gives way to explosion of rock and roll. Couldn’t find much info on the band – anyone?

3.   Endless Wave – Land Of The Sun

Boston band drops some shoegaze with great Zeppelinesque choruses.

4.   SPC ECO – Gone

Regular listeners know that we love SPC ECO here at S2, so we just had to feature another tune from the Big Fat World EP. Huge, ethereal shoegaze loveliness by former Curve man and friends.

5.   Her Vanished Grace – Passenger

Is this from the new Ivy album? Nope, it’s some dreamy power pop outta New York. [Update: I've replaced the band link above, which also has this track available as a free download.]

6.   Rebecca Peake – In The Park

A Google search reveals several Rebecca Peakes, but none of them have much to do with this band’s sound. Dig in for 7+ minutes of ringing, distorted guitars over midtempo shoegaze melodies.

7.   The Chemical Brothers – Let Forever Be

Psychedelic dancefloor classic with killer vocals from Noel Gallagher. It’s off Surrender.

8.   Boris – Hope

Pulled from Attention Please, one of two new albums by the band. This is their shoegaze-y one, which has some good tracks and vocals by Wata. Like the use of strings on this.

9.   The Men – ( )

Holy sh!t. If there were any more guitars on this, I’m sure it’d set a world record. Iggy-inspired rock and roll overload from Leave Home.

10.  And So I Watch You From Afar – Gang (starting never stopping)

Irish band drops a frenetic combination of Battles, fusion heroes like Billy Cobham (see Spectrum), and Van Halen. This has been out for a while but I haven’t figured out where to slot it in till now.

11.  Sri Aurobindo – Towards The Sun

Named after a famous nationalist from India, these guys have their drone down.

12.  The December Sound – Drone Refusenik

Speaking of drone, prepare for a psychedelic journey eastward on this track.

13.  Moonbeams – Sundays

Stephen Merritt-indebted shoegaze off their latest album The Daisy Chain.

14.  Honey – Counting Seasons

This Glasgow band seemingly came from nowhere, but we’ve fallen for this epic dream rock tune from Taste It And See. Free download through link above.

15.  Illogical Time Concerns – Holes Of Colors

Another one by this San Fran band, but from Post AD, downloadable for free via above link. Love the dripping vocals over shadowy beats: “Don’t say too much…don’t say enough…”

16.  Alan Watts – Jukebox Dad

Named after the American philosopher and Buddhist, this band delivers a subterranean, highly distorted psych dirge.

17.   Night Moves – Finally Home

First:  this track is from their wonderful album Coloured Emotions, available for free via their website. Go get it. Second: on this track the Minneapolis band somehow managed to bottle Broken Social Scene during their beautiful, quiet moments.
